Must
Must es un verbo auxiliar modal. Usamos este auxiliar modal para expresar un alto grado de obligación, para deducir, dar consejos, sugerencias y recomendaciones contundentes, así como para expresar lo que creemos que es cierto.
El principal uso de must es para expresar obligación
- They must do what is intended for the project.
- Amy must not cross at a red light.
- She mustn’t tell anyone about our secret!
Se utiliza para deducir o expresarse en lo que creemos tiene certeza
- He arrived late to work. The boss must have been annoyed.
- Spain gets really hot so it must be hard during the summer months.
- Our company has increased its income by 20%, therefore, it must be going really strong.
Usamos must para dar consejos, hacer sugerencias o recomendaciones
- Listen, you must listen to my friend because he knows what he’s talking about.
- You must see the new bar that just opened, it’s amazing!
- The food there is so delicious, you must go one day.
Diferencia entre ‘must’ y ‘have to’
‘Must’ puede ser sustituido por ‘have to’ con muy poca diferencia en su significado. ‘Have to’ es solo un poco más formal.
