Adverbios de lugar

Los adverbios de lugar indican dónde sucede una acción. Estos se modifican el verbo, adjetivo y otros adverbios, por eso, se colocan después del verbo, normalmente al final de la cláusula.

Hay muchos adverbios de lugar, como: below, anywhere, here, there, far, indoors, upstairs, where, on, out, abroad, under, afar…Los adverbios de lugar son abundantes.

Fíjate en que muchos de ellos realizan también la función de preposición.

Uso normal de adverbios de lugar

  • We have looked around for her for ten hours.
  • You are moving abroad, aren’t you?
  • Branson lives afar.
  • Vicky went upstairs to see her friend.
  • Maria and Joe left to go where they wanted spend time alone.
  • Where are you mate? I am below in the yard.
  • I will be working here next month.

Frecuentemente, los adverbios funcionan como adverbios y como preposiciones. Cuando el adverbio es, de hecho, una preposición, es necesario que vaya seguida de un nombre. En los siguientes ejemplos los dos casos están subrayados.

  • The rugby league player dropped into give us some advice.
  • Our children were left behind after school.
  • I think she’s been looking around.
